Norman Wettenhall (1915-2000) was encouraged by his father to collect books in the fields of biography, history and exploration. After graduating in medicine at Melbourne University he served in the Royal Australian Navy 1939-45. He began collecting seriously after the war with a particular interest in ornithology.

Kenneth Webster, New Zealand Kenneth Webster (1906-67) was born in Wellington, New Zealand and educated at Wellington College. In 1936 he went to England, serving in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps during the war. At this time he began collecting Maori antiquities and later early New Zealand and Pacific books, manuscripts and pictures. Webster died in London.
