Works

van RAALTE, Henri (1881–1929)

Two Trees and a Farm. A delightful little bit. A huge gum in the foreground, at its side on old worn-out warrior bare of leaf, in the distance the "little farm".

The gap thro' the trees. Eucalypts in foreground, through the gap a river, in the distance tree-covered hills. A quiet, restful picture.

Evening. A pool in foreground, trees on a sloping bank in middle distance, mountains in distance, setting sun and clouds in background. A beautiful etching, finely handled.

Red Gums. Giant trees in foreground with tremendous boles and limbs; through a gap in the centre the view fades away into valleys and hills. A majestic work; the power and strength of Mother Nature as here depicted, fill one with awe.

LINDSAY, Norman (1879–1969)

Ashton, Julian. (1851–1942)

The curtsy. A quite charming little etching. Girl dancing, skirt outspread and held up by extended right arm. The suggestion of movement is very fine.

Study of a head. Bust, with a sweet, pensive, dreaming face, large eyes and a wealth of soft hair.

Ashton, Julian. (1851–1942) and Ashton, Julian. (1851–1942)

The ferry. River in foreground, old-fashioned punt against the further bank, on the same bank trees thick with foliage reflected in the river by mysterious shadows, through a gap in the trees high mountains appear in the distance, a cloudy sky.

Angus & Robertson. (1886–) and Ashton, Julian. (1851–1942)

The class room. 14 | etching | Julian Ashton, with pupils, working at their easels in the studio. An interesting plate.

Ashton, Julian. (1851–1942)

Gloucester Street, The Rocks, Sydney. A finely-worked plate, shewing a bit of OLD SYDNEY long since demolished. Besides being good etchings, this plate and the two named below have an historic interest. These two points make them well worth securing.

Old house, Trinity Lane. Another bit of Old Sydney now demolished.
