Production notes
This is one of four lithographs printed by Webb & Son, London in 1837. 'A view from Camden on the River Nepean, N. S. Wales' and 'A view of Gummum Plains & Liverpool Range, N. S. Wales, taken from Brindley Park' are after drawings by Robert Dixon. 'An exploering [sic] party on the River Bogan, N. S. Wales after heavy rain' and 'King Teapot & his two gins, chief of the Bogen tribes, N. S. Wales, as he appeared after having a tightner' are after drawings by Thomas Balcombe.
Both Dixon and Balcombe were employed by the Surveyor-General's Department under Thomas Mitchell, and the four lithographs record incidents observed during their surveying expeditions. It would seem that Dixon took the drawings with him to London in 1836 and arranged to have them lithographed. (he also had his map, 'This map of the colony of New South Wales ... ' (July 1837) engraved and published during his London sojourn).
None of the lithographs have the legally required imprint for them to sold in Britain. This suggests they were only for private circulation, or they were produced with the Australian market in mind.
