Subject description

The artist notes, ‘We’re not the Bogeyman’, was a remark by Yami Lester at the handback of Uluṟu in 1986. The CLP flew a plane over the ceremony dragging a flag reading ‘Ayer’s Rock for all Australians’ and Kumantjayi Lester said 'they think we’re going to take the rock and roll it away'.
I wanted to depict the violence visited on the ancestors of the beautiful people we knew (my husband Sasha worked at CAAMA).
Bob Marley (on T-shirt) was a hero at that time
