We have received from the publisher Mr F. W.
Niven Lydiard street, Ballarat, plain and tinted
copies of Mr C. A. Abbott's very cleverly designed
pictorial sheet almanac for 1867. The almanac is
entitled " Ballarat Punch's," from the fact of its
containing caricatured representations of some of
the most striking episodes in local history during
the past six or seven months, selected from Mr C.
A, Abbott's "Ballarat Punch," contributed to by
him as frequently as occasion required, while the
MS, volume of caricatures occupied a place on the
table of Mr J. K. Baird's Fine Arts Exhibition.
We need not here eulogise the abilities of the artist,
or say that his best designs have been worthily re-
produced: but we may say that the almanac is one
of the most attractive of its kind, quite a novelty in
arrangement, and will no doubt be found on the
walls of every counting-house and ordinary place of
business. We have also received a copy of Blundell
and Ford's (Melbourne) "Victorian Almanac,"-a
sheet calendar, with a great number of commercial
and other references. A very nicely executed en-
graving on wood, in tints, representing the accepted
design of the new Melbourne Town-hall, graces the
sheet, which will no doubt be largely patronised.
