Bob Baird

EDUCATION.

Born Sydney: Studied at St, George Technical College 1965-66, Julian Ashton Art School 1968-69, National Art School Sydney and Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education 1974-77, Sydney Teachers’ College 1978-79.( University of  Sydney) He traveled extensively on study tours through Europe, England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, America, Middle East, South East Asia, and North Africa.1978-79, 2001-2006 studying the works of the Classical Masters, and Modern Masters.

 

Bob has been the recipient of numerous commissions in portraiture and in landscape painting. His landscape Paintings and Drawings, where under contract, exclusively to Holdsworth Gallery, Woollahra and Holdsworth Contemporary Gallery Sydney 1987- 1998 where he conducted yearly solo and group exhibitions. Also many group exhibition in Australia, Mexico, England, China, Taiwan.   

 

SELECTED MAJOR EXHIBITIONS.

He has been a finalist in prizes including: the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000; the Archibald Prize 1994; and the Dobell Prize for Drawing 1997. He was appointed Artist-in-Residence at Dobell House and Studio in 1998, where his solo exhibition, ‘A tribute to Dobell’ was held in 1999. He participated in the exhibition ‘Portraits 2001; An Australian Odyssey’ which toured NSW, QLD, VIC, SA, Regional Galleries in 2001-2002. Shirley Hannan National portrait Award.2010.

 

Bob Baird was employed as a full-time Fine Arts Educator with NSW TAFE Commission 1980-2008. He has practiced extensively as a professional musician working in Cabaret in Sydney,1970-80’s backing many prominent entertainers. He is engaged in jazz performances in Sydney and Interstate.  He has been touring yearly since 1999-2006, playing Jazz in British, European, American and Australian Jazz Festivals.
