We have to congratulate the colony on the progress that the fine arts are making amongst us. We had the pleasure the other day to see a very beautifully painted group by Mr. Duterrau of Mr. McLachlan's family, including Mrs. McLachlan and himself with their two most interesting little children. The finishing and taste displayed in the execution do much credit to the pencil of the artist. Besides, Mr. Duterrau, we must here mention a series of very successful and striking portraits from the hand of a friend, whose name we do not feel ourselves here at liberty to mention, as
also some very beautiful animated landscapess by a late arrival, Mr. Armstrong, two of whose productions are exhibited in our Reading room.
