…The idea of a daily paper, however, has led to another project. Several Gentlemen, with a view to "advance Australia," are desirous of promoting the design of a paper manufactory, which, if brought to bear, would save from 5 to 8,000 pounds a year to the Colony. Poor Fisher, who has lately been so barbarously murdered, first embarked with the scheme of paper-making some years ago, and a very coarse foolscap was produced; but unfortunate Fisher, not receiving full support, and on this account the Services of many a patriot have been lost, and lost for ever, the paper manufactory was suffered to drop. The mill and other apparatus still are in the possession of Cooper and Levey, who, we are aware, would also co-operate with their fellow Colonists in promoting so essential an establishment. There cannot be any want of materials in this Country to produce paper, and as we have no doubt men could be found who would undertake the management of such a concern, we have pleasure in stating that a subscription list is open at the GAZETTE OFFICE for the names of such Gentlemen as will contribute to the enterprise by taking shares in the concern.
