CHROMO-LITHOGRAPHIC VIEW OF WEST MAITLAND.
A HANDSOME PRESENT TO OUR READERS.
IT IS OUR INTENTION TO PRESENT TO OUR READERS, providing sufficient support is received, as an illustrated supplement to the Maitland Mercury, A LARGE AND HANDSOME PICTURE OP THE TOWN OF WEST MAITLAND, executed in the best style of chromo-lithographic art. The picture will be accompanied by minor views of interest in and around the district, which will also be chromo-lithographs. In order to secure faithful and artistic work in this supplement, we have entered into a contract with Mr. Wellesley A. Parker, representative of Messrs. P. W. Niven and Co., Ballarat, who is now exhibiting specimen views of several of the principal Australasian towns executed under his supervision, and whose experience and previous successes are a guarantee that what he under- takes will be faithfully performed. In connection with this supplement pictorial advertisements will be received, and Mr. Parker, who is a capable designer of such advertisments, will immediately commence a canvass of the town to obtain orders for the same. It is proposed to give pictures of the leading public buildings, those already completed as well as those in course of construction, also portraits of noted residents and prominent business men. The fact that 10,000 of these pictorial supplements will be distributed with the Mercwy and sent to our numerous subscribers in all parts of the world, should render the pictorial advertisements the best publicity to the business men of the town which has ever presented itself, and should make the comprehensive view an interesting souvenir of West Maitland. The number of such advertisements that can be received must necessarily be strictly limited, so that those who desire to take advantage of this unique opportunity should make prompt arrangements with Mr. Parker, or at our office, for suitable positions in the supplement. This picture will afterwards be retained on the lithographic stones, and a local agent will be appointed for the sale of extra copies. The principal illustration will be a large picture, about 2 feet by 15 inches in size, of the town of West Maitland. The minor views will include our public buildings, views of the principal streets, and other places of interest. Further information as to this supplement, which will form a handsome adornment to the parlour and office, will be furnished on application to Mr. Parker.
A special feature of this venture is that subscribers to the illustrated supplement enterprise will be supplied by Messrs Niven with sufficient number of supplements to enable them to dispense with the hackneyed wall almanac, and present their customers with a picture of West Maitland instead.
