MR. G. F. ANGAS. – We observe by the late English newspapers that Mr G. F. Angas, the artist, who recently made a professional tour of the Australian Colonies and New Zealand, has reached England in safety. At the fifth soiree of the British and Foreign Institution, on the 17th March, Mr. Angas exhibited a large collection of very interesting drawings, made by himself during his excursions in these countries. They embraced scenery, costumes, portraits, and groups of figures illustrative of the manners of the various tribes. He was accompanied by a New Zealand youth, son of the chief Pomare, who, with the whole of his family, except only this youth, were killed by a hostile party. This son, thus left without parent or protector, was taken by Mr. Angas, to Sydney, and there placed at school: but on returning to England, Mr. Angas brought the youth with him, to give him the benefit of an English education, and afford him an opportunity of seeing this country, after some stay in which, it is intended that he should return, to communicate the results of his acquirements to his countrymen. The youth was dressed in his native costume, he evinced great intelligence and excited general interest by his appearance and conversation.
