Full text

Probably the late Victorian Exploring party, contained among its members when it left Melbourne, no member more enthusiastic in the mission, and more resolute to "do or die," than Ludwig Becker, the artist. He gave himself up entirely to the labour of the enterprise, and the few sketches which he lived to make showed at once the enthusiasm of the man and the skill of the artist. Unfortunately, his health early gave way, and his remains, lie in one of the graves made in the camp on Bulla. Those who remember him - and there are few in Melbourne who du not - will prize as a memorial of a single hearted follower of art, a lithographic portrait of Mr. Becker, which has been issued for private circulation, by a loving countryman, Mr. Schoenfeld. It is a faithful likeness, and a clever lithograph.
