The August number of the Australian Engineering and Building News is just to hand, and shows that the high standard with which this publication started has been more than maintained. The Stephenson centenary recently celebrated in England has given occasion for a very interesting sketch of the life of the great engineer, and a very good lithograph portrait of him is issued with this number. There are also articles on ancient architecture, the strength and qualities of various colonial timbers, railway signals, and Denny's improved drop furnace for roasting pyrites, besides a number of other subjects of interest to all classes connected with building and engineering.
