FINE ARTS.—The first of a very interesting series of lithographs has just been issued by Messrs. Macartney and Galbraith, of Collins-street, entitled “Views in and around Melbourne.” It is the work of Mr. Gill, whose graphic sketches of the diggings are so well known, and this first of the series is devoted to Collins-street, looking west from Russell-street. Mr. Gill is, perhaps, not rigidly correct in his perspective, crowding the cross streets a little too closely together, and retaining the width of Collins-street too far into the distance. But he imparts to the street a very life-like and natural look, with a little dash of his own original humor here and there; and if the series is carried through with equal spirit, these sketches will form a very pleasant and interesting present to friends at a distance, who can form a better estimate of the realities of the gold colony by one dash of the pencil of the artist, than by all the tedious efforts of us poor grovellers of the quill.
