DOMESTIC INTELLIGENCE
COLONIAL BANK OF AUSTRALASIA. – The first-proof of the note of this corporation was yesterday evening shown to us. The design is from the pencil of S.T. Gill, Esq., and the engraving is by Mr. James Ferguson. The design, as might have been expected, is very beautiful, and the engraving and printing are worthy of the design. In the centre of the upper portion of the plate the royal arms of England surmount a flock of sheep on a shield, beneath which are a number of emblems of the origin and progress of the colony. The masts of ships and the stacks of chimneys are seen in the distance. On the right front are implements of agriculture and sheaves of wheat, and on the left are a diggers’ hole with the windlass, while the cradle, pick, shovel, tin, &c., are scattered about. The figure of a digger dressed in flannel shirt and wide awake, and armed with a pick, occupies the “dexter chief,” while the shield on which the significant “₤5” is imprinted is supported by the kangaroo and the emu.
