Abstract
Alterations to the plan of St. Andrew's Cathedral, will render it different from published lithographs.
Full text
St. Andrew's Cathedral. - The works at the cathedral are progressing favourably. At the suggestion of the architect, an alteration has been made in the plan. A small lantern is to rise from the centre of the building, at the intersection of the transepts and the nave; and at the west end, instead of one large tower, as shown in the lithographed views, there are to be two towers, exactly on the plan of the large one, both of smaller proportions; and the bottoms of the towers are to be thrown open to the nave, which will be thus made thirty-five feet longer. The additions and alterations in the foundation thus rendered necessary have been some time in hand; and the committee have now called for tenders for raising the side walls west of the transepts to the bottoms of the windows, and of the west end to the tops of the doors, which the state of their funds enabled them to do with safety. - Herald, December 22.
