Love Street.

Ricardo’s City series is a caustic commentary on the dark side of life in the city. His apocalyptic images teem with figures in a crowded, oppressive city. Trapped in a man-made environment, their lust and greed has overtaken them — havoc rules. There is a sense of black humour about these works, which is accentuated on closer examination of the myriad of figures in the cluttered cityscape.

These unusually large and technically flawless works draw on a tradition of graphic style which dates back to Hogarth, Goya and Piranesi. Ricardo’s use of the traditional techniques of drypoint and aquatint reinforces his graphic style. In more recent times his work may be compared to the works of Albert Tucker, Rick Amor and Nick Nedelkopoulos.
