Abstract

Melbourne painter Mary Meyer, studied with Phillips Fox, and in 1904 married Felix Meyer. She was a supporter of the arts and had an important collection of paintings (Some in the NGA). She also collected Japanese prints and etchings by Whistler in the late 1890s these were purchased in Melbourne, and are now in the NGA collection. On her death a great many of her paintings were sold in bulk at Joel auction (when it was in Hardware Lane) in 1978? A large group was acquired by Vaudeville Antiques in South Yarra. Mostly on card or small wood panels, many were painted both verso and recto. They were dirty, but were in good physical condition.
