Transplanting of the Bread-Fruit-Trees from Otaheite.
William Bligh returned to Tahiti in 1791 with the ships Providence and Assistant to transplant bread-fruit trees from Tahiti to the West Indies where they were to be planted to provide cheap food for slave plantation labour. The mezzotint shows the trees, in small wooden tubs, being transferred from the island shore to a waiting boat. The naval officer in command is presumably Bligh.
