The shell.

This was never exhibited and only one impression is known to exist. It is probably a proof from a rejected stone. A watercolour of this subject, almost identical, is reproduced in Art Australia, “Thea Proctor”, Number, April 1932, p. 29.

Proctor has used the decorative form of the Banksia in this print. Unlike Preston she did not pursue the use of native flora as a decorative element on her return to Australia.
