Robyn Kahukiwa
Robyn Kahukiwa was born in Sydney in 1941. She moved back to Aotearoa New Zealand in 1960, and now lives in Rotorua. She has focused on her Maori cultural heritage and is considered to be a leading Maori artist. Kahukiwa is a prominent supporter of Maori rights and the power and prestige of Maori women both as writers and artists. She is a member of Maori Artists and Writers, Nga Puna Waihanga and Haeata Maori Womens Collective. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally since the early 1980s. As well as painting, drawing printmaking and sculpture, Kahukiwa writes and illustrates children books.
