For New England: a print portfolio by eight contemporary artists.

The New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) has always been fortunate enough to have donors, supporters and friends. Indeed this was true many years before the Art Museum ever opened its doors to the public. NERAM is one of those institutions that attracts the committed, the interested and the obsessive. All give, give and give again.

The giving started with Howard Hinton, was continued by Chandler Coventry and has been followed more recently by many artists, the public, and private and corporate enthusiasts.

The portfolio, For New England, is such an exciting mix. It began one night, after several drinks, from an idea by Kay and Colin Lanceley and Alun Leach-Jones. Six months later after several circuitous routes, six other artists offered their support and encouragement, as did five printmakers.

All beautiful and wondrous dreams require a financial component to bring them to reality. Pat Corrigan is a giver and he bankrolled the portfolio to life.

The prints in the 50 portfolios can not be sold individually, nor can the sets be purchased. Rather, this exceptional portfolio of eight prints, boxed and titled, will be presented to sponsors or donors who have provided encouragement and support to NERAM and to say thank you.

The artists represented in the portfolio were asked to respond to the poem For New England by Judith Wright. Each print conveys an individual style and unique approach to the medium. Judith Wright gave, as did Cressida Campbell, John Coburn, Kevin Connor, Colin Lanceley, Alun Leach-Jones, John Olsen, Jan Senbergs and Ann Thomson. Thankyou also must go to the print makers for keeping the costs to a minimum. Special gratitude goes to Michelle Perry for carrying and delivering prints, humouring artists and of course for printing four of the prints. NERAM is also indebted to Herve Goarin for the lovingly handmade portfolios.

NERAM thrives and continues to develop because of its magnificent patrons, followers and lovers of art. The portfolio, For New England is but one more example of art, a will to give, financial benefaction and a wish to support coming together at the appropriate time.
