Indian girl.
Indian girl is the most visually complex of the Asian triptych, largely because of the costume, with its veil, bangles and beads, which Griffin represented by a variety of means. Opaque inks on a wiped block are used for the diaphanous Indian veil, while the subtle colouration on the vest suggests a rich, soft material. A simple wooden architectural feature acts as both a positioning and a framing device. See catalogue entry for Blue sarong [cat.76].
