Janet Dawson

Born in Sydney on 10 June 1935, Janet Dawson studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne and was awarded the travelling scholarship in 1956. She travelled to London 1957-59 and studied etching at the Central School of Arts and Crafts, and lithography at the Slade School. During 1960 she worked at the Atelier Patris, Paris printing artist’s lithographs. Returning to Melbourne in 1961 Janet Dawson established the Gallery A print workshop and ran Gallery A (1962-64), at that time the only gallery specializing in original prints. She later continued the workshop in Sydney. Dawson is now primarily concerned with painting. Her working name as a theatre designer was Janet Boddy; as a book illustrator, Janet Dawson Boddy.
