Hossien Valamanesh was born in Teheran, Iran, in 1949, where he graduated from the School of Fine Arts. He emigrated to Australia in 1973. In 1974 he travelled to Central Australia as art adviser to Aboriginal children. He settled in Adelaide where he studied at the South Australian School of Art, graduating in 1977. Primarily a sculptor, Valamanesh also exhibits drawings which are closely related to his lithographic prints. His prints have usually been printed by Robert Jones, Beehive Press, Adelaide.
