Peter Laverty
Born in Winchester, England in 1926, Peter Laverty studied lithography and linocut printing at the Southern College of Art from 1941 to 1951. After moving to Sydney in 1951, he became chiefly a painter and watercolourist, although since 1957 he has produced occasional screenprints and numerous monotypes.
Laverty taught at the National Art School, Sydney, becoming the head of the school and State Supervisor of Art from 1952 to 1971. He was Director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales from 1971 to 1978.
