Ray Crooke

Born in Melbourne, Victoria on 12 July 1922, Ray Austin Crooke studied at Swinburne Technical College. He joined the AIF in 1939 and began painting while serving in Borneo and adjoining islands. These images are found in many of his paintings and prints. He produced a few etchings in the early 1950s while at Swinburne but most of his work is in screenprinting, a process he taught himself at that time. Since the early 1980s he has also worked in aquatint.
