Michael Nicholson

Born in Newark-on-Trent, England in 1916, Nicholson studied at Royal Military College, Sandhurst from 1933 to 1936; City and Guilds School of Arts and Crafts, London from 1938 to1939; and painting at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts from 1947 to1948. He taught at the Central School, London between 1946 and 1948, where he produced about six lithographs. From 1955 to 1960, while living in Aotearoa New Zealand, he produced about 40 lithographs. In 1960 he moved to Sydney where he became interested in sculpture, mural constructions and film-making.

Throughout his career, Nicholson has been a tutor, lecturer and artist-in-residence at various art institutions both in Aotearoa New Zealand and in Australia.
