Leonard French
Born in Melbourne on 8 October 1928, Leonard William French began painting in 1946. He later studied at Melbourne Technical College before travelling in Europe in 1950-51. Chiefly a painter, he has also painted murals and worked in stained glass. While teaching at the Melbourne School of Printing and Graphic Arts between 1956 and 1958 he executed about a dozen screenprints and a number of lithographs. French travelled in the Far East in 1960 and in 1961-62 did a set of etchings at Melbourne Technical College based on his Campion series of paintings. He visited Europe again in 1962-63. In his later years he produced many lithographs.
