Jan Senbergs
Jan Senbergs was born in Riga, Latvia, in 1939. Following his father's death in 1944 his family lived in Germany and Italy, and as refugees arrived in Australia in 1950.
From 1956-1960 Senbergs was an apprentice screenprinter and during these years produced his first prints. As part of his course he attended the Melbourne School of Printing and Graphic Arts. Senbergs held his first exhibition in 1960 and has exhibited regularly since. He was awarded the Helena Rubinstein Travelling Art Scholarship in 1966, a Creative Arts Fellowship at the Australian National University in 1975, and in 1987, travelled to Antarctica at the invitation of the Australian Antarctic Division, Department of Science. He has taught occasionally at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology since 1966.
