Shilpangan has organised a special ten-day print exhibition titled, Ei Shomoer Chhapchitra, of contemporary print makers of Bangladesh. The inauguration of the show will be held today (Friday, September 26) at 5.30pm at the Shilpangan Gallery in the capital. The exhibition will be inaugurated by eminent educationist Professor Zillur Rahman Siddiqui. Writer Abul Hasnat will speak at the function as Guest of Honour and celebrated artist Mostafa Monwar will preside over it. The show will be concluded on October 5 and will remain open daily from 10.00am to 9.00pm.
The show will be the biggest ever print exhibition organised so far by Shilpangan. It comprises 25 senior and promising artists of the country. Among others, the art lovers will find at the show artists such as Potua Qamrul Hassan, Shafiuddin Ahmed, Mohammad Kibria, Rafiqun Nabi, Monirul Islam, Prof. Abdur Razzaque, Abdus Sattar, Mahmudul Haq, Abul Bark Alvy, Shahid Kabir, Wakilur Rahman, Rokeya Sultana and a number of young painters who regularly work on different platforms of print making. Not only from Dhaka, artists from Chitagong, Rajshahi and Khulna will also participate in the exhibition.
Shilpangan has tried to organise this kind of show before, but circumstances didn’t suit them. This time they have succeeded in arranging the eagerly-awaited exhibition showcasing works by celebrated artistes such as late Potua Qamrul Hassan, who died in 1988. His two woodcut print will be exhibited at the show. Bangladesh’s renowned artist Monirul Islam, who has been living in Spain for over 30 years, Wakilur Rahman, settled in Germany, Shahid Kabir, also living in Spain, and another Monirul Islam, settled in New York, USA, presently working with N. Krishna Reddy, are expected to draw the viewers’ attention. The show will expose different media of print-making including lithograph, woodcut print, colour viscosity, print-based mixed media and etching.
As a participant, Professor Abdur Razzaque said that he was very happy to participate in this show, adding, he had waited for a long time for an exhibition of this kind. He also said this show was the biggest ever arrangement made by Shilpangan in the history of Bangladesh.
The work named Untitled, (media-etching) done by Mohammad Kibria, exhibits a brilliant composition. Another work titled Shadows of the World (etching) done by Monirul Islam is remarkable piece. In Radha, the renowned female artist Rokeya Sultana tries to show a female form which could to different layers of meaning and symbols. The piece Lithograph O Onnannyo (mixed media) done by Rafi Haq, a promising artist, seem to be expressing the different aspects of life and also a variety of forms. In short, the works on display have proved once again our artists’ creative richness and vitality.
