James Sharp

Born in Sydney in 1905, James Sharp gave up banking and began painting full-time after studying painting at the Desiderius Orban School, Sydney, from 1949 to 1950. He lectured in the tutorial department of Sydney University and taught painting at Newington College. Largely self-taught in printmaking through his association with the Workshop Arts Centre, Willoughby, NSW, he became its honorary art director from 1964 to 1974. A foundation member of Sydney Printmakers, 1961, he has concentrated on lithography and etching as his main printmaking media.
