The images were not drawn from life, but were derived from printed sources. The image of John Rutherford was copied from Craik, G. L., 'The New Zealanders', London, 1830.
The date of production 1834: Maclehose only advertised as at the 'Old Australian Bazaar No 6 Hunter Street' in 1834.

Portraits of five Aotearoa New Zealand Māori chiefs: 1. Tupai Cupa, 2. George, 3. Ahoudee Ogunna, 4. Tooi, 5. John Rutherford (an Englishman who became a chief), and 6. a depiction of 10 war clubs.
