Production notes

This work is an unacknowledged copy of the portrait in the lithograph 'Biddy Salamander. Broken-Bay Tribe. [and] Bulkabra, Chief of Botany, N.S. Wales [and] Gooseberry. Queen of Bungaree, N.S. Wales.' by Charles Rodius, published by J.G. Austin, 1834.

In 1838 E.D. Barlow purchased the press, apparatus and stock of J.G. Austin & Co. William Baker who established his printing business in Sydney in 1835. purchased the lithographic press and other items from E.D. Barlow in 1840. In March 1841 he advertised 'Likenesses on sale of the Aborigines'. [Free Press and Commercial Journal, 20 March 1841, page 4].

This work with the imprint of 'Printed & Published by W Baker King St. Sydney' is probably from this date.
