Production notes

The artist notes: "Paper: Stonehenge white, 245gsm. Technique: Reduction Linocut with photo polymer relief & hand feathering. Printing information: Broken plate: Printed in 11 colours; Crockery plate printed using reduction linocut method from one block; White sticker printed using a second linocut matrix; 'Hand-written' text printed using a third linocut matrix; Makers mark stamp ("Quality Ware") printed from photopolymer relief matrix using transparent ink then dusted with gold pigment dust; Soft shadow around sticker created from dry scumbling with ink and brush (ie: hand feathering). Unbroken plate (double-sided print): Front (bottom view of crockery plate) printed in 9 colours; Back (top view of cup and saucer) printed in 11 colours; Crockery plate/cup form printed using reduction linocut method from one plate; White sticker & writing printed using a second linocut matrix; 'Hand-written' text printed using a third linocut matrix; "Royal Albert" stamp printed from photopolymer relief matrix (colour varies between plates); Soft shadow (around sticker and on cup side of print) created from dry scumbling with ink and brush (ie: hand feathering)." Edition information: There are 14 broken and 14 unbroken plates. Each of the prints is subtly different/unique because of the stickers, the stamps and the hand-written text (variations in placement, colour and text). The artist notes: "Although the prints of the crockery-plates are the same, the stamps and labels on each item of crockery differ from print to print. The plate was printed using reduction linocut, then the sticker was printed using a second lino matrix. By using a second matrix I was able to place the sticker in different positions to create variations. There is also a variation in the colour of the 'stamps' on the unbroken plates. The hand-written text was added using a third lino matrix, which also allowed me to create variations." Portfolio edition information: The artist notes: "There are two other portfolios (installations) in addition to the one acquired by the Silk Cut Foundation, which each feature different configurations of plates. The NGA's portfolio has 12 broken plates, and there are only two other broken plates in the edition (the other two portfolios/installations include only one broken plate each). The NGA's portfolio also has 2 unbroken plates, and there are 12 other unbroken plates in the edition (these are included in the other two portfolios/installations). The other two portfolios have some prints i
