The artist notes in a letter on file 77/721, the invalid was "Veda Nelson a NZ girl". "The engraving 'The invalid' is based on my pencil drawing 'Veda' dated 26/8/28 purchased by AGNSW from the Society of Artists annual exhibition 1928". "A few impressions only were printed and the plates were lost in the blitz on London in 1940". The artist, in a letter on file 77/721 folio 16.
