Subject description
A gentleman on the right, in a white pierrotÂ’s dress, holds in his right hand the strings that regulate the antics of a crowd of puppets on the floor. The lady standing near him has just taken off her mask; a harlequin stands behind them, at whose feet is the signature CONDER. There is an ornamental border to the design. [Dodgson (1913)]
