Biography

We wish to advise that the 20 December 2019 will mark the closure of Hill Smith Gallery. Established in 1982, after enjoying 37 years of successful operation as a private gallery in Adelaide, we as Directors of HSG are looking to devote more time to other professional commitments and family. With this significant change, we want to take the opportunity to acknowledge the many years we have enjoyed in the business, immersed day to day with talented artists and like-minded supporters. As participants in the Adelaide arts community, we have over the years formed close, and rewarding relationships with many individuals who share with us a commitment to supporting a flourishing arts community in our city. We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the many artists, both local and nationally based with whom we have had the pleasure and privilege of working with, without whom, we would not have had a successful gallery, or be able to offer visitors and collectors a diverse and broad exhibition program. Equally important are the many collectors and supporters who have purchased or admired work at HSG, and to each of you we extend our thanks and gratitude for this support on behalf of ourselves and the artists. Our thanks and appreciation are extended to our current hard working Gallery Assistants, Jane Llewellyn and Sarah Northcott for all their efforts and to those past employees who over that long period have worked with us. To our colleagues in the various arts organisations, many of which HSG has been involved with on a long term basis, we also extend our thanks and appreciation as partners. Our ongoing involvement in the arts will continue in the immediate future, albeit in a different format. This may involve some rental and art advisory services, valuation work as well as some secondary market activity, details of which will be notified as things develop in 2020. For now we can be contacted at all the usual email, telephone, social media and website addresses, as well as of course retaining a presence at 113 Pirie Street until further notice. Again, we extend our thanks and appreciation to all who have contributed to the successful, memorable and enjoyable years of operation at HSG.
