Biography
Originally traded as the Sydney Coe Gallery. After the Mr. Coe retired from the firm in March 1952, it operated as the Peter Bray Gallery. The management and focus on contemporary Australian art did not change. Managers: Helen Ogilvie 1949-55, Ruth McNicoll from September 1956-57.
'THE Stanley Coe Gallery at 435 Bourke-st. is a much needed addition to Melbourne's exhibition facilities. ... The gallery itself is very tastefully arranged. The lighting is good, the atmosphere one of refinement, and one which augurs well for its future standing as a picture gallery'.
