Abstract

In this new body of work, Dianne Fogwell has drawn upon her immediate surrounds, as much as a sense of botanical histories; as she has noted:

There are botanical elements present in the work but I’m attracted to the broader sense of the term. The idea of a contained space with sides where there is an ambient temperature and a sense of secrecy and protection of what is inside the walls. The work is inspired by the garden where elements have been planted and designed by someone’s hand but there is no real control over the outcome. I understand that a walled garden might keep the visitor navigating within a specific space but what happens is individual to the visitor just like the work within the gallery walls.  [Press release, 2010]
