Abstract
Bravura examines Australian contemporary craft in the 21st century from the permanent collection of the Art Gallery of South Australia, including acquisitions from the Maude Vizard-Wholohan Art Prize Purchase Awards 2009. The exhibition encompasses the practices of textiles, ceramics, glass, furniture, metalware and jewellery by Indigenous and non-Indigenous practitioners working in Australia.
Bravura reflects on our current relationship to craft and in particular how we engage with notions of place. Fifty-eight craft practitioners are represented by seventy-eight works of art, making this a major survey of Australian craft. Artists included are Kirsten Coelho, Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, Julie Blyfield, Khai Liew, Jeff Mincham, Alison Carroll, Kantjupanyi Benson, Vito Bila, Jennifer Robertson, Giles Bettison, Stephen Benwell, Lola Greeno and Marian Hosking.
Curator: Robert Reason, Curator, European and Australian Decorative Arts, Art Gallery of South Australia. [Gallery media, 2009]
