Abstract
Rupert Bunny (1864-1947) was one of the most successful expatriate artists of his generation. No other Australian received the critical acclaim or enjoyed the artistic affiliations that Bunny achieved in Paris at the turn of last century.
A superb colourist and fine draughtsman, Bunny painted imaginative tableaux which remain among the most loved pictures in Australian Galleries today. From the romantic mythological scenes endorsed by the Salon, to vibrant decorative allegories and Belle Époque pictures of Parisian leisure, Bunny’s works can be admired en masse in this major national travelling exhibition.
