Abstract

In his new body of work, Brisbane-based artist Wayde Owen investigates universal truths of ingestion and growth, decay and mortality with a unique sharpness. With his own unmistakable twist, he approaches the canvas with great energy: paint splashes, smears, smudges, streaks, stains, skids and drips. There is a tactile fleshiness to the paint. In 2005 Owen won the prestigious Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship and has since had three sell-out solo exhibitions and numerous group shows throughout Australia. [Gallery media, 2010].
