Abstract

This exhibition pairs two recent video works by James Newitt, Dreams and Suspended in Place which reveal subtle portraits of performers in empty urban sites. These densely layered and beautifully crafted works stem from both directed and observed footage and record private moments that give insight into the multiplicity of our relationships to specific sites.

Along side these two works, James presents Passive Agressive, a single channel video work that investigates the long standing social tensions relating to Forestry practice in Tasmania. James observes, through a detached and objective lens, the passionate and political struggle for collective ownership of valuable resources. [Gallery media, 2009].
