Abstract
Stewart’s ceramic forms explore notions of his spiritual and emotional response to the Australian landscape; specifically a Western Australian landscape. The work is made using WA clays and the wood used during the firing come from his property at York in the Wheatbelt. As the Australian landscape is clothed with vegetation that has been altered through millennia of indigenous burning of country so, using melted & fused ash, is his work clothed with the remnants of that vegetation.
