Abstract

Claude Flight and his Circle.
As part of the exhibition Out of the Book and On to the Wall which opens on 20 February, the new display Claude Flight and His Circle reveals the influence of this English artist and teacher on both English and Australian artists who attended his linocut classes at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art in London during he 1920s.

Strong rhythmic designs, bold colour and simplified forms characterise the decorative linocuts. They were seen by the artists and their contemporaries as expressing a modern vital art in a relatively new technique.

This was a sub-section in the exhibition, 'Out of the book and onto the wall'.
