Abstract

A thematic history of prints and printmaking in Australia, from the late 18th century to the present. Themes include prints by Aboriginal Australians, scientific prints of the early 19th century, the colony in caricature, Australian painter-etchers, expatriates working in England and the United States, social realist prints from the depression years, war, the print revival of the 1960s, political posters of the 1970s and works by artists from a multi-cultural background. The exhibition includes works in etching, engraving, lithography, wood and linocuts and screenprinting.
