Abstract
Hanga: Japanese Creative Prints focuses on the new concept of "prints as art" that emerged at the beginning of the 20th century. Of two main streams of modern Japanese prints, Creative and New Prints, the Creative Print responded to new developments in Western art and thus closely reflects the modernist art movements in Japan. The exhibition follows its development featuring over 130 images, including significant works by major artists including ONCHI Koshiro, HASEGAWA Kiyoshi, TANINAKA Yasunori and MUNAKATA Shiko. Many works from Japanese collections are shown for the first time outside Japan. [Gallery media, 2001].
