Abstract

Liza McCosh’s work is inspired by nature, in particular the elements of water, air, fire and earth which dominate the South West Victorian landscape where she lives; rugged coastlines, dramatic skyscapes and volcanic topography abound. In a location that also intrigued earlier painters of the sublime, McCosh seeks the physical evolution within the landscape; both through naturally occurring processes, and through the overlay of human intervention. Fusion is a response to these enquiries and extends Liza’s research into painting methods that emphasise the autonomy of matter in the creative process; the generative quality of paint and nature both having the capacity to create new material form and ideas.
