Abstract

The annual She exhibition and competition, organised by the City of Greater Dandenong’s Walker Street Gallery, is held to mark International Women’s Day and is open to female artists from around Australia. As a sponsor Deakin University Art Gallery selected Jenny Evans and Rowena Hannan from 2008’s She: Who Explores for a prize winner’s exhibition. Jenny Evans interprets through painting the popular culture of technologically driven SMS language as a way of understanding new technology and cultural values. Rowena Hannan uses porcelain to transform mundane objects into repositories full of suggestion and evocation. [Gallery media]
