Abstract

"My work is about the environment and the human position within it -- the dilemma of being irrevocably linked to all other life forms while being aware of our own mortality and exploitative nature. Since 1980 I have worked primarily with paper that I make myself because it is the material in which I come closest to expressing my concerns and my passions. A lifetime of painting in water colours and a more recent interest in printmaking also shapes the work.

For many years I have spent periods of time far away from Australia’s 'Europeanised' and settled rim, travelling in the interior with my scientist husband. In the out-back, I paint, draw, photograph, look at, listen to, smell and touch the land. Driving the long distances gives time for reflection.

The work in the exhibition “Anatomy of Landscape” is born from these experiences, often having their conception in poetry." [Artists statement, gallery media, 2008]
